TACKY HIGH School will lock horns with St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) for the ISSA/TVJ Super 8 T20 title following commanding semi-final victories at Sabina Park yesterday.
The opening semi-final saw Tacky producing an efficient performance to come away with a 61-run win over Clarendon College before STETHS easily brushed aside Headley Cup champions Manchester High by eight wickets.
The all-rural semis were expected to be a dog fight in both encounters, but neither lived up to that billing as Tacky first put the skids on a Clarendon side that didn’t do themselves any justice with as much as three runouts in their turn at the crease.
First up, Tacky posted 128 all out in 19.2 overs, with number five batter Jordan Pinnock leading the way with a top score of 24 before Terrome Gayle bowled him.
Javere Green chipped in with a crucial 23, with Jiovanni Richardson getting 15 against two wickets for Romeo McDonald.
Chasing 129 for victory, the Clarendon side lost their discipline between the wickets as three of their first four batters went via the run-out route thanks to some enterprising fielding from the St Mary-based Tacky.
Dijauni West led the resistance with 22 while Kavel Bailey made 12 in Clarendon’s 67 for eight in their 20 overs. Tequan Roberts bagged two for 18 while Jovannie Palmer ended with two for 20.
In the second game of the doubleheader, STETHS ran rings around the double champions Manchester, who looked a shadow of themselves with the bat when they posted a mere 76 all out in 16.3 overs.
Only two players managed to get into double figures thanks largely to the efficient bowling from STETHS.
Tesfah Ward Jnr top-scored with 27 while Barrington Simpson scored 10 against four wickets for Kevaun Brown and two apiece from Tyriek Bryan and Kevoni Graham.
Bryan then returned to lead the successful run chase for STETHS with an unbeaten knock of 47 from 54 balls in their score of 77 for two in 15.1 overs.
STETHS and Tacky High will square off in the final on Saturday at the Sir P Oval in Treadlight, Clarendon.
