The 2026 Carifta Games could be heading to Grenada after Guyana withdrew as host.
The 53rd staging of the Games was thrown into limbo when Guyana announced they no longer had an interest in hosting the three day meet.
However even before the 2025 staging came to an end in Trinidad and Tobago on Monday, Grenada signalled its intention to take on hosting duties via a statement of submission which was expressed at the Carifta Congress.
It’s important to note that there are established processes and parameters that must be followed and met before any official confirmation can be granted by regional track and field governing body NACAC.
This includes a detailed bid document inclusive of the commitment of key stakeholders.
On April 2, 2024, a Kaieteur News report stated that the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) has expressed interest in hosting the Carifta Games in 2026, as revealed by Michael Sands, president of the North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC).
Bids were opened IN 2023 for the hosting of the next three games with Grenada granted the 2024 rights, Trinidad and Tobago 2025 and Barbados 2026.
However, Barbados recently withdrew their bid offer due to facility readiness issues, prompting a reopening of bids.
