Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says he’s excited about the recent announcement by Catalonia Hotels and Resorts that it has purchased Holiday Inn Resort in Montego Bay.
Catalonia, a respected international hospitality brand, announced on Tuesday that it has purchased the resort from East Bay Management Company Limited, led by prominent Jamaican businessman Kevin Hendrickson.
Minister Bartlett sees the move as a strong signal of confidence in Jamaica’s tourism sector and a potential trigger for further investments.
The tourism minister is commending Hendrickson for his significant contributions to the tourism sector and says this has undoubtedly added to the property’s success and, ultimately, to its appeal for a prestigious brand like Catalonia.
In a joint press release announcing the purchase, Hendrickson noted that it was a difficult decision to sell the resort.
But he noted that he was proud to leave it in the hands of a company with such prestige and hotel experience.
In the meantime, Catalonia has outlined ambitious plans for the property.
It says it intends to invest significantly in the coming months to ensure it aligns with their high standards while maintaining a strong commitment to the local community and environment.
