BPL: Mayers plays crucial knock as Fortune Barishal lift title

MIRPUR, Bangladesh (CMC):

Barbadian Kyle Mayers smashed 46 from 28 balls and was key to Fortune Barishal defeating the Chittagong Kings by three wickets in a high-scoring final of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) here at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, yesterday.

Mayers hit three sixes and three fours and shared two crucial partnerships as the Barishal overhauled the Kings’ competitive total of 194 for three, finishing on 195 for seven off 19.3 overs.

After captain Tamim Iqbal, who topscored with 54 from 29 balls and Towhid Hridoy put on 76 runs for the opening wicket, Mayers added 34 with Mushfiqur Rahim and then 42 with Mahmudullah, to carry Barishal within sight of victory, before becoming one of Shoriful Islam’s four wickets.

Earlier, Parvez Hossain Emon hit 78 from 49 balls and Khawaja Nafay scored 66 from 44 balls to propel the Kings to a formidable total.

They added 121 runs for the opening wicket inside 13 overs to give the Kings a blazing start, before Graham Clark belted 44 from 23 balls to ensure the innings ended with a bang.
