Campbell Withdraws Agriculture Tax Suggestion

3 months ago 24

Opposition Spokesman on Agriculture, Dr. Dayton Campbell, has sought to clarify his stance on the taxation of imported food.

Speaking Thursday evening on Nationwide at Five, Dr. Campbell says he did not intend to signal that the People’s National Party, PNP, would impose a new tax.

While speaking at a recent PNP meeting, Dr. Campbell said it was time to “put a little thing” on imported food.

This led the opposition leader, Mark Golding, to explain that what Dr Campbell was suggesting, was an approach that earmarks existing taxes that are collected on imported food items.

Dr. Campbell says he’s withdrawing the comment as he sees how it could be interpreted as a sign that the next PNP administration will impose new taxes.
