Kimeka Smith and Rickoy Hunter delivered additional field success for powerhouses Jamaica when the pair clinched gold in their respective events on the second morning of the 51st Carifta Games here Sunday.
Smith threw 13.68 metres to win the girls' Under-20 shot put while Hunter leapt 7.48 metres to win the boys' long jump in the same age category.
Jamaica had earlier dominated Saturday’s opening day at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium with four gold medals in the field events.
And the 18-year-old Smith maintained that momentum when she notched her winning mark on her second attempt, after a failed opening effort.
Bahamian Annae Mackey finished with silver with a throw of 13.58 metres while Brianna Smith of Cayman Islands took bronze with 12.86.
Hunter, meanwhile, was forced to wait until his final attempt to post his winning mark, his prior best being 7.05 metres.
Bahamian Bernard Kemp, who led up until the final round, copped silver with 7.40m while Teon Haynes of Barbados claimed bronze with 7.32m.
In the other field event of the session, Bahamiah Tasha Stubbs snatched gold in the girls Under-20 javelin with a throw of 50.94 metres.
Teammate Vanessa Sawyer kept the Bahamas in the headlines with silver when she measured 43.03m while Grenada’s Alliah Gittens finished with bronze after tossing the spear 42.33.
