Chang Accuses PNP of Relying on Death Squads to Reduce Crime

Deputy prime minister and national security minister, Dr. Horace Chang, has accused the People’s National Party, PNP, of defunding the police and relying on death squads as an anti-crime measure during its time in government.

He was addressing claims made Opposition Spokesman, Senator Peter Bunting, that he accomplished more despite not having had a fraction of the resources now enjoyed by Dr. Chang to fund the police.

Dr. Chang is referencing the infamous death squads alleged to have carried out extrajudicial killings between 2009 and 2013.

He says it was the actions of those members of the constabulary force that prompted the creation of the Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM.

Citing the 18 per cent reduction in murders enjoyed for 2024, Dr. Chang says it is proof of the efficacy of the current administration’s crime-fighting plans.
