THE MONTEGO Bay Boys and Girls Club Warriors, formally known as the Falmouth Saints, are in tip-top shape heading into the 2025 season of the National Basketball League (NBL).
Dave Black, captain and point guard of the team, believes their background work has placed the team in solid position to perform better than last season.
“For us, training has been going really well. The guys are just coming out of a regional competition so they are seasoned and ready to go. The team were crowned champions of the Montego Bay Horizon Basketball League so that’s a good start heading into the NBL,” he stated.
Initially set for a start date on January 18, the NBL has been delayed to the first week in February.
“We have a great mixture of youth and veteran players. We have young players from the top high schools in Montego Bay like Herbert Morrison and St James High representing the club this year,” he stated.
According to Black, last season’s seventh-placed finish was less-than-acceptable but that their rhythm was impacted by a number of factors.
“It was disappointing for us but based on the schedule of the games and players playing in another league at that time, it disrupted the flow of the team,” he explained.
In the off-season, the team added depth to their squad at the centre and guard positions. Based on the pre-season work, Black believes the additions could make the team a force to be reckoned with.
“This year we have some really good ‘bigs’ and players at the guard position. Therefore, we should be dominating on the boards, shot blocking and inside the paint. So, I think that will be a big plus for us heading into this season.”
