Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke says he’s satisfied there are sufficient institutional safeguards in place to maintain stability in the Jamaican economy.
He made the observation as he prepares to take up the post as deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, IMF.
Dr. Clarke is set to begin working in Washington DC come October 31. Prime Minister Andrew Holness has noted that a successor in the finance ministry has already been identified.
Dr. Clarke revealed the opportunity to work with the multilateral came about in the last few weeks. The finance minister says he’s comfortable that he has served the country well.
Meanwhile, Dr. Clarke says it was a difficult decision to leave his job as finance minister.
In reflecting on his historic appointment, Dr. Clarke says the moment presents an opportunity for Jamaicans to recognise that they have the capacity to achieve great things.
