Member of Parliament for East Central St. Andrew, Dr. Peter Phillips, believes a wider consultation is required to break the current constitutional reform deadlock.
Dr. Phillips, a former Leader of the Opposition, says this could potentially be the only way to salvage the process.
The Opposition PNP says a breakdown in trust between them and the government has contributed to the current impasse.
This as the Opposition Leader Mark Golding insists that the reform agenda cannot proceed without settling the matter of the Caribbean Court of Justice as Jamaica’s final Appellate Court.
Dr. Phillips believes it may be best to not pursue the matter during such a politically charged period before a general election.
Meanwhile, Dr. Phillips says the leaders of the two main political parties must have frank private discussions about areas of compromise as they seek a way forward.
