DUNBEHOLDEN FOOTBALL Club dragged their way off the floor of the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League yesterday, getting the better of last year’s beaten finalists, Mount Pleasant FC, in a humdinger of a game at the Dunbeholden Sports Complex.
The St Catherine-based side got the better of the former champions 3-2, courtesy of goals from Neron Barrow in the 26th minute, Nakeel Wright in the 48th, and Dean Andre Thomas in the 68th.
While all of that action happened in front of the Mount Pleasant goal, it was they who struck first, with Kyle Ming opening the scoring in the 21st minute of play.
While it only took Dunbeholden four minutes to regain parity, their go-ahead goal took much longer, and things looked even more comfortable when they went two up with just 22 minutes left on the clock.
But things were to get interesting, with a player who has proven to be interesting over the last few seasons.
Kimoni Bailey has been one of Mount Pleasant’s revelations over the last two seasons and as has been the case quite consistently, he had something to say about the outcome of the game.
Bailey would score in the 79th minute to make for a hair-raising end to the contest.
Dunbeholden held on for the win and with it, moved to six points from six games, one more than Molynes United, who now replace them at the foot of the 14-team JPL table with four.
Mount Pleasant, who have played seven games, remain fourth on the table with 12 points, one behind Portmore United, and two adrift of Montego Bay United and Waterhouse.
Montego Bay, with their plus-eight goal difference, continue to lead the JPL with Waterhouse, second, just five goals off.
There will be a rescheduled JPL game today between the Chapelton Maroons and Arnett Gardens at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex beginning at 6:00 p.m.
