Principal of Tacky High School, Errol Bascoe, has resigned as the PNP’s standard-bearer for West St. Mary, following allegations of sexual misconduct by a 23-year-old man.
Mr. Bascoe submitted his resignation to PNP president, Mark Golding, on Friday, March 8.
In his resignation, Mr. Bascoe called allegations against him scurrilous and malicious. He denies the allegations.
“I am innocent of this false allegation, and I am confident that the truth will prevail in due course,” said Mr. Bascoe.
The allegations stem from a police report against Mr. Bascoe, filed by an unemployed 23-year-old man in Gayle, St. Mary.
The man reported to the police that he had sought out Mr. Bascoe for help in dealing with legal troubles. According to the police report, one day this year while at Mr. Bascoe’s house, the high school principal had sex with the 23-year-old.
According to the police report, the man said given the circumstances in which he found himself in Mr Bascoe’s home, he felt manipulated into having sex by Mr. Bascoe.
The man was taken to hospital where he was treated for lower abdominal pain.
In his resignation letter, Mr. Bascoe told the PNP president that he wants to dedicate his full attention to clearing his good name.
Despite pleading his innocence, Mr. Bascoe says he’s stepping aside as caretaker for West St. Mary in recognition that the allegations could potentially impact the PNP’s reputation.
He says his resignation aims to prioritise the party’s interests.
Mr. Bascoe thanked the PNP and the people of West St. Mary for their support during his time as stand-bearer in the constituency.
He says in time, justice will be served and his good name will be preserved.
