Fantan Mojah has definitely got his mojo back, and that is due in part to the excellent CSEC results from his daughter, Fantasia. The Holy Childhood High School graduate was successful in nine of 10 subjects that she sat in the recent examinations and Fantan is over the moon.
“I am overwhelmed ... proud daddy moment. She did well, and we are very happy,” an excited Fantan told The Gleaner.
Reflecting on Fantasia’s journey, he shared that his daughter was born in the US, “but me keep her in Jamaica for prep school and high school”.
“She gone up to her mother now because she wants to do college in the States ... so she up there sorting out things. A whole heap a money mi spend pon dem, yuh know’. So mi happy ... really happy,” the father of seven said.
Fans of the Rasta Got Soul artiste were concerned when in July, he had a brief hospital stay in Martinique after being admitted there for “chest tightening and breathing problems”. He was forced to miss the Reggae Therapy Festival that he was booked for and was ordered to remain in the island for more than one week before being allowed to travel home to Jamaica.

Fantan, who was in high spirits, emphasised that he is ready for a show in Toronto on September 6. He is also expressing gratitude to the doctors and all the medical personnel who attended to him while in Martinique.
“The doctor dem tek care of mi. Dem treat me good ... and mi waan shout out all of the doctors and nurses and all the hospital staff. A bare love from Fantan Mojah. Right now I feel much better than before,” Fantan told The Gleaner, adding that he is focusing on a healthy lifestyle.
“Mi cut off the smoking and the drinking and dem tings deh. From mi deh a Jamaica, mi did feel mi chest a tighten up, and mi end up a UWI, but mi never too disclose it,” the Rastafarian entertainer added.
He was also full of praise for his Martinique fans who “love [him] different”.
“The love dat mi get inna Martinique nuh normal. Big dem up straight for giving me a warm welcome. Fi di last 10 years, Rasta Got Soul is one of the biggest songs inna Martinique and Costa Rica,” said Fantan, who is now promoting the singles Out of This World, Confidence, and Rasta Yard.
Fantan Mojah, whose given name is Owen Moncrieffe, was, at one point, signed to Downsound Productions, released his début album, Hail the King, in 2005. It featured popular singles such as the title track Nuh Build Great Man, featuring Jah Cure; and Corruption. He was named the breakout artiste of 2005 and was hailed for his positive lyrics, uplifting themes, positive portrayal of women, and condemnation of ill morals.
However, he came under hellish fire in 2021 when he released the singles Fire King and Touch That Body, along with music videos awash with a string of scantily clad females cosying up to the Bobo Shanti deejay, who openly showed his appreciation and affection. Fantan notes that three years later, those two songs “are among the most requested in [his] lionlogue (catalogue)”.
Fantan Mojah leaves for Canada on Wednesday.
