Finance Minister, Dr. Nigel Clarke, says the proposed Customs Act which was passed in the House of Representatives last Tuesday, will facilitate enhanced economic activity in the country.
Speaking in the House, Dr. Clarke said the Bill has been more than five years in the making.
It replaces The Jamaica Customs Act, which dates back to 1941 and was designed for the pre-electronic and pre-digital era.
Dr. Clarke says the proposed Customs Act is forward-looking and promotes efficiency, predictability, transparency and accountability.
The finance minister says the document, which runs to about 1,000 pages, supports principles that align with Jamaica’s Vision 2030.
