Finance minister, Fayval Williams, is rejecting suggestions the government’s projection of increased revenue collection in the new fiscal year is a signal that an undue burden will be placed on taxpayers.
The assertion was made by Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, as he sought to contradict the government’s claim of no new taxes in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Meanwhile, Minister Williams says state agencies have been given a new mandate ahead of the next fiscal year to improve the ease with which Jamaicans can pay their taxes.

The finance minister says Tax Administration Jamaica’s current special arrears programme is one example of an initiative meant to drive efficiency in tax collection instead of imposing new taxes.
The programme is a one-time opportunity for taxpayers to benefit from a waiver of interest, penalties, and surcharges, providing that they clear outstanding principal balances owed on selected taxes by March 31, 2025.
