Former Director of Elections, Orette Fisher, says allowing early voting for the general electorate could help make the voting process more convenient.
His suggestion comes amid growing concerns over voter apathy and the consistent decline in voter turnout over the past two decades.
Speaking during Nationwide at Five on Thursday, Mr. Fisher highlighted that early voting, currently limited to election day workers and members of the security forces, could be expanded to include the wider electorate.
Mr Fisher acknowledges that legislative changes would be necessary to extend early voting privileges to more groups.
He adds that younger generations are less inclined to stand in long lines to vote, making it crucial to explore more accessible voting options.
Mr. Fisher believes that, in the future, voting will likely be conducted remotely to accommodate a more convenient and modern process.
