Former JLP Councillor Leroy ‘Lizzy’ Mitchell Has Died

Former councillor for the Walderston Division in North East Manchester, the Jamaica Labour Party’s Leroy “Lizzy” Mitchell has died.

Mitchell passed on Thursday night in hospital.

In a statement, Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed that Mitchell distinguished himself over many years as a champion of the people.

Mr. Holness says the former councillor will be remembered as a selfless, dignified and diligent servant of the people.

He described Mitchell as a devout humanitarian and a formidable political organiser, which accounts for the success he enjoyed in a particularly competitive Division.

Prime Minister Holness says Mitchell was particularly keen on social welfare and economic enablement, as he valued and prioritised protection of the most vulnerable in his Division, while helping a cross-section of constituents to access economic opportunities that improved their quality of life.
