Former champions France and Spain have set up what’s expected to be an epic semi-final showdown at the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany with nervous quarter-final victories today.
The French came through a gripping 4-3 penalty shootout win over another ex champion Portugal at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburgh after they failed to break each other down after regular and extra time.
Spain has been the hottest team at the tournament so far and they broke German hearts with a minute to go in extra time when Mikel Merino headed in to give Spain a 2-1 victory.
The last two semi-final spots will be known tomorrow when England tackles Switzerland at 11am and the Netherlands battle Turkey at 2.
