Francis Softens Stance on Return of ETH to MVP

Iconic track and field coach Stephen Francis says his position on a possible return of Elaine Thompson-Herah to the MVP club may have shifted slightly, however he doesn’t see it happening for a number of reasons.

Thompson-Herah left the MVP camp at the end of the most successful year of her career in 2021.

At the time Francis said there was no way back for Thompson-Herah in his organisation. In fact, Francis said she was the only person who left the camp that could never return.

While at MVP, Thompson-Herah became the first woman to win the Olympic sprint double back-to-back. She also became the second fastest woman ever under Francis’ tutelage.

Since her departure, Thompson-Herah has gone no where close to those dizzying heights.

Francis is now saying he would never close the door on a return, but it would not benefit the camp having her around at this time.

The suggestion Francis has for Thompson-Herah is that she move her training base to the United States.

Thompson-Herah withdrew from the National Championships two days before the start due to injury. The withdrawal means the reigning Olympic 100m and 200m champion will not be competing at the Paris Olympic Games this summer.
