The round of 16 of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup kicks off today with eight matches.

Frome Technical High, who have been cruising through the rounds undefeated, will face defending champions Clarendon College at the Llandilo Sports Complex in Westmoreland in the feature match at 3 p.m.

Cleighton Stephens, the coach of Frome, said his team this year is more mentally and physically prepared ahead of the big clash.

“I think the boys are ready. They are compact and we have gone 720 minutes of match time without conceding a goal. The defending champions Clarendon College are always going to play well, regardless of the team they put out on the field. Everybody is saying we need luck but we are also going to show them what we have. We can challenge anybody. We are confident going into the game,” Stephens said. “I really think we will be getting something positive out of this game and we are seeking a win because it is a home game.”

The player to watch today for Frome is their leading scorer, Stevaugh Spence, who has found the back of the net 18 times.

Meanwhile, the Lenworth Hyde-coached Clarendon will go into this encounter seeking to hand Frome their first defeat. Hyde will be relying on the likes of Deandre Gallimore, Keanu Jennings, Donte Walters and Nahshon Bolt to take them over the line today.

In Malvern, St Elizabeth, an interesting matchup looms, with Munro College, winners of Group 4, hosting Group 1 runners-up Cornwall College at 3 p.m.

The Kemar Ricketts-coached Munro will need the leadership of striker Antwone Smith, top-scorer with 12 goals, and Reuben Garnes-Alleyne, to earn a positive result against Cornwall.

Cornwall will look to top-scorer Carlondo Morris and captain Deshaun Talbert to try and steal a win in this crucial away game.
