The young professional arm of the Jamaica Labour Party, Generation 2000 or G2K is calling for PNP President Mark Golding to step aside as Opposition Leader.
G2K says Golding’s admission to being a dual citizen was made only due to mounting pressure from the public.
G2K president, Shayne Kerr, says Golding’s admission followed a period of evasion and lack of transparency, where he avoided directly addressing the concerns of the Jamaican people.
According to the G2K president, the opposition leader’s initial response to queries about his citizenship was woefully lacking and only served to misdirect persons from the reality that he is desperately clutching to his British citizenship.
G2K says Mr. Golding’s attempt to obfuscate his citizenship raises questions regarding his motive for blocking the Constitutional Reform Process to remove the King of England as head of state.
The group says his status as a British citizen is morally incompatible with the Office of the Opposition Leader.
