LONDON, England:
Jamaica Women’s international Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw collected another accolade on Thursday in England.
Her spectacular first goal for Manchester City against Liverpool last month earned the Jamaican the Women’s Super League (WSL) Goal of the Month award for March.
The 27-year-old scored the third goal for Manchester City inside 24 minutes in remarkable fashion, picking up play from Laura Coombs, flicking the ball around the on-rushing Gemma Bonner, and unleashing a vicious 25-yard drive into the top corner.
Famed for her quality inside the box, the moment of individual brilliance from Shaw proved that she can be equally dangerous from distance.
It was also the perfect way to celebrate her first match since becoming the club’s record scorer, a milestone she reached in a 3-1 win against cross-town rivals Manchester United on home soil at the Etihad Stadium.
Shaw headed the fourth goal for City soon after the restart at Prenton Park, building on earlier strikes from Lauren Hemp and Jess Park, as the visitors recorded a 12th consecutive WSL win.
The Jamaican continues to pursue the WSL Golden Boot award with her tally for the season now standing at 19 goals in 17 appearances, six ahead of her nearest rival, Lauren James of Chelsea.
March was a memorable month for City in the WSL, with a clean sweep of the league’s monthly awards.
Park was named Player of the Month, and Gareth Taylor was named Manager of the Month after City won all four of their league fixtures during the month.
