Golding Says $3m Tax Threshold Promise Under Review

2 weeks ago 6

Opposition leader, Mark Golding, says his promise to increase the country’s income tax threshold to $3 million is now under review.

The income tax threshold moves to $1.8 million effective today, April 1. That’s up from $1.7 million.

In 2024 when the threshold stood at $1.5 million, Golding vowed to double it to $3 million when his party next formed government.

Speaking just outside Gordon House following the Throne Speech in February that year, Golding told reporters that the party had already worked out funding plans for the proposed increase.

When the question was put to the opposition leader a day after the conclusion of the 2025 budget debate, he noted the promise was being reviewed.

Finance Minister Fayval Williams used her maiden budget presentation last month to announce further increases in the income tax threshold. It’s set to move to $2 million by April 2027.
