Opposition leader, Mark Golding, has asserted that Prime Minister Andrew Holness owes him an apology for leading a walk out of government members during his budget presentation last Tuesday.
Mr. Golding made the assertion while speaking during an interview on The Fix last Saturday.
Nora Gaye Banton has that report.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness led a walkout of parliament by government MPs in protest over Mark Golding’s comments about the spousal relationship between the leader of the government and the Speaker of the House.
House Speaker Juliet Holness is the prime minister’s wife.
Mr. Golding suggested that the relationship compromised Mrs. Holness’ ability to act fairly and impartially in her duties as a House Speaker.
The walkout prevented Mr. Golding from completing his contribution to the 2024–2025 budget debate in the House.
He completed his presentation on Duke Street, on the outside of Gordon House, to a crowd of PNP supporters.
Mr. Golding, who was a guest on The Fix, dismissed claims that he was criticizing Mrs. Holness as House Speaker.
Mr. Golding says it’s bizarre that the Prime Minister’s reaction to his critics was to lead a walk out of the House.
According to the opposition leader, the prime minister owes him an apology.
