Gov’t, Opposition Senators Clash Over Portmore Parish Bill

There were tense moments in the upper house last Friday between government and opposition lawmakers over the move to make Portmore the country’s 15th parish.

Opposition Senate Leader, Peter Bunting said the move risks endangering those reliable electoral processes which have led to a broad acceptance of election results in Jamaica.

But government senator, Marlon Morgan hit back insisting that the move to make Portmore a parish is focused on bringing more benefits to the people.

Meanwhile, another government senator, Abka Fitz-Henley, accused Senator Bunting of attempting to insult the collective intelligence of the Jamaican people.
