The Government has secured funding for the redevelopment of the National Stadium at Independence Park.
The funding was secured through the Framework for Cooperation with the Government of the United Kingdom.
The budget for the project is estimated to be U.S $100Million.
The funding agreement will unlock 95% of that amount, with 5% to be allocated in the budget of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport.
Work on the project will begin in August of 2025. It will be done in three phases over a three year period.
A team of architect and project managers from the UK collaboratively submitted a proposal to the government to undertake the renovation and were selected.
Ryder Architecture and CAA Icon who’ve worked on stadia and concert arenas around the world, were the successful companies.
Sports Minister, Olivia Grange, says the facility will still be open for the hosting of events during the renovation process but on a scaled down basis.
Minister Grange says the country will be targeting global sporting events even before the work is completed.

The redevelopment will include dispensing with the bleachers area, establishing modern facilities for anti-doping, new facilities for media, the establishment of a national sports museum, new modern lighting, new seating options, new meeting and conference facilities, premium suites and lounges and new concession facilities.
They will also remove the cycle track to bring spectators closer to the action.
The stadium currently holds 28,500 and upon completion it will cater for 35,000.
