Information minister, Robert Morgan, says the government is concerned with serious matters and is not committing time to the debate over whether House Speaker, Juliet Holness, should withdraw a letter of reprimand sent to former Clerk to the Houses of Parliament, Valrie Curtis.
The minister was asked about the issue at Wednesday’s post-Cabinet media briefing.
Daina Davy reports.
Minister Morgan was asked at the media briefing to respond to the opposition’s repeated calls for House Speaker, Juliet Holness, to withdraw her letter to the former Clerk to the Houses of Parliament, Valrie Curtis.
On Sunday, opposition leader, Mark Golding, said the letter amounted to an abuse of power.
Minister Morgan says there are more important issues to discuss.
The information minister contends that a disservice is done to citizens when others are allowed to cause distraction from the issues affecting Jamaicans.
The minister was also asked about the decision of the House Speaker to not release the Attorney General’s opinion on the handling of reports from the Integrity Commission and the Auditor General’s Department.
