Heimir Hallgrimsson has resigned as coach of the Jamaica National senior men’s football team with immediate effect.
Hallgrimsson’s decision to step down was communicated to Jamaica Football Federation, JFF, president Michael Ricketts and the players on Sunday.
Hallgrimsson took charge of the national team two years ago with a clear mandate from the JFF to qualify the team for the World Cup finals in 2026.
Hallgrimsson had two years to run on his contract, but the federation opted to accept the resignation and has now mandated the Technical Committee to begin the search for a new coach.
It is not clear if Hallgrimsson’s backroom staff, including assistant John Wall will follow. The search for a new coach is pivotal with Concacaf Nations League and World Cup qualifying imminent.
