Hibbert Considered Olympic Withdrawal

Jamaica’s athletes failed to medal on day nine of the track and field programme at the Paris Olympics.

The country’s athletes contested three finals; the women’s sprint relay, the men’s triple jump and the men’s 400-metres hurdles.

In the men’s triple jump, Jamaica’s Jaydon Hibbert finished fourth with a best effort of 17.61 metres.

The event was won by Spain’s Alejandro Diaz in 17.86 metres, Pedro Pichardo of Portugal was second with 17.84 metres and Andy Diaz of Italy third with 17.64 metres.

Hibbert says he contemplating withdrawing from the Olympics.

In the women’s 4-by-100-metres final, Jamaica’s quartet of Alana Reid, Kemba Nelson, Shashalee Forbes and Tia Clayton finished 5th in a season’s best 42/29 seconds.

Meanwhile, Roshawn Clarke failed to finished in the final of the men’s 400-metres hurdles. Clarke race ended when he hit the final hurdle and fell.

In the meantime, Jamaica’s quartet of Andrenette Knight, Ashley Williams, Charokee Young and Stephenie Ann McPherson moved into Saturday’s final after winning heat-2 in 3:24.92.

And Ackera Nugent will be Jamaica’s only representative in the 100-metres hurdles. Nugent finished third in semi-final-3 in 12.44 seconds.

Two time world champion Danielle Williams finished sixth in semi-final-1 and Janeek Brown seventh in semi-final-2.
