Prime Minister Andrew Holness, has described recent call for a tax on imported foods by Opposition Spokesman on Agriculture, Dr. Dayton Campbell as stupid and dangerous.
He came out strongly against the move while delivering the keynote address at Caribbean Broilers Grand Opening of its New Air Processing Plant
Mr. Holness slammed Dr. Campbell’s suggestion while simultaneously lauding the principals of Caribbean Broilers for tackling the cost of living issues in the right way.
Dr. Campbell has since withdrawn the proposal. He suggested he misspoke.
He’s since sought to clarify his position, suggesting the focus of a next PNP administration would be import substitution.
However, the Prime Minister, says any such tax would have harmed consumers.
