Prime Minister Andrew Holness has warned that there’s an ongoing battle for the minds of Jamaicans over the achievements of his administration.
Dr. Holness made the comment while addressing a National Housing Trust, NHT, handing over ceremony in Perth, Manchester, on Wednesday.
The prime minister is urging Jamaicans to be careful judges of the information being fed to them in that battle.
Ricardo Brooks has more in this report.
The prime minister says the NHT has accelerated its efforts to build more than 40,000 houses for Jamaicans. He says more than 4,000 houses are now under construction across nine parishes. Thousands more are expected.
He says the overall project projection is now back on track, following an interruption by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr. Holness is hailing the planned constructions as a major step in the right direction.
But Dr. Holness says detractors are seeking to diminish the achievements of his administration. He says his government will not cede ground in the ongoing battle of ideas.
Holness says there are those who are invested in pushing the narrative that nothing is happening in the country. He says never before in the country’s history has the NHT had so many projects in the pipeline.
Dr. Holness is urging the Jamaican electorate to be more discerning in the information they consume.
The prime minister also used the housing hand over event to tout what he says are his government’s achievements on the economy.
