June’s 5.4 per cent inflation rate, was largely influenced by a 1.4 per cent increase in the index for ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’. This is due to higher prices for goods such as tomato, carrot, yam and cabbage.

The index for the ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ division also increased by 0.8 per cent for the period.

The inflation rate is predicted to further increase in the coming months, due to the July 3 passage of Hurricane Beryl.
