Former world’s number one Novak Djokovic has withdraw from the ATP Finals due to an unspecified injury, marking the end of his 2024 season.
Djokovic pulling out means that for the first time since 2001 there will be no member of the ‘big three’ Djokovic, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer present at the ATP Finals.
Djokovic’s withdrawal guaranteed the inclusion in the eight-man tournament of Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev and Casper Ruud, who otherwise would have had to battle it out in a three-way scrap for the final places.
Despite qualifying for the event, which begins in Turin on Sunday, the 37-year-old has stressed that his priorities are the grand slam tournaments and the Davis Cup at this point in his career.
He has not competed since losing against Jannik Sinner in the final of the Shanghai Masters last month.
Earlier this year Djokovic won the only major title that was eluding him, he produced an incredible performance to defeat Carlos Alcaraz to win his first Olympic gold medal in Paris.
