Leah GC is an upcoming female artist who was born Aleah G. Copeland in the Cayman Islands to a Caymanian mother and Jamaican father on July 10, 2001. She attended the Red Bay Primary and John Gray High schools before furthering her education at the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre and lastly, the University College of the Cayman Islands.

She realized that she wanted to be an artist from the very moment she first performed on stage at a church she attended at that time. Leah GC was about 9 years old and can even remember the song she sang, which was “Amazing Grace”. The looks on people’s faces and the tears in their eyes gave her the feeling that made her fall in love with wanting to share her voice with the world. She knew right then and there that music was something she needed to do and from there on, has participated in everything on and off the island that was performing arts related.

Her influences growing up were her family, the church choir and the studio crew from high school, especially Mr. Dalmond and the whole after school program studio team. These persons played a vital role in inspiring Leah GC to pursue music. She participated in everything entertainment including singing, dancing and acting. Leah GC learned from every aspect of music which led her to start writing her own music at a very young age. She also drew inspiration from Whitney Houston, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Tamar Braxton and others.

At 15 years old, Leah GC had her first studio experience where she recorded a song she wrote. She was working with a producer who had a home studio but she didn’t know the inner workings of recording and distributing music at the time. Therefore, she would record songs and not release anything. However, this allowed Leah GC to build her portfolio with a plethora of songs waiting to be put out.

Officially, her first release was a collaboration with a high school friend, recorded on a tropical, summertime-type beat they had fallen in love with. They called it “Flow” and did the visuals for it, which should still be on YouTube. Leah GC is not signed to any labels currently but is open to the possibility if the opportunity presents itself. However, the independent artist has worked with quite the number of labels already.

The producers she’s worked with over the years include Comastone, Levels To Life, Life of G and VSR. Each brings their own vibe and flair to any project they’re collaborating on and the energy is always great. Her bucket list consists of Rvssian, Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Benny Blanco, Stephen Di Genius, Alle Benassi, Afrojack and Brian Kennedy, just to name a few.

Currently, Leah GC is working on her EP, which, she believes, is going to be completely unique. She expressed that there’s definitely going to be some fun and relatable songs on there, which she hopes everyone falls in love with as she already has.

Leah GC has some singles out under Life of G Entertainment, 2 of which have music videos in the works. Recently, she released “Heart Cries”, produced by VSR. “Let It All Go”, produced by Levels To Life, dropped Friday, June 14th. It debuted on iTunes the following day at number 34 and peaked at number 11. Also, Leah GC has been releasing her own music since August 2023, and hasn’t been putting much pressure on herself to try and blow up overnight as she knows her time will eventually come. She describes her music as a mixture of Dancehall, R&B and Soul with a little bit of Pop. Leah GC is trying to share a different and unique experience cultivated through different genres and versions of her music.

Through her music, Leah GC would like to share personal and relatable situations that have transpired in one’s life, even events they are too shy to talk about or admit to themselves. Generally speaking, she wants to be able to share those experiences, to tell a story everyone can relate to and apply it to their lives while letting them know that what they’re feeling is valid. Leah GC hopes other artists will see what she’s trying to accomplish and gravitate towards the movement.

So far, each song has generated positive feedback in different ways. Releasing music has been great but she then came to realize that releasing accompanying visuals was better. With “Heart Cries”, the response was absolutely crazy in the best way possible. It topped the charts in Cayman, has over 47,000 plays on Instagram and is being streamed on all platforms.

Though it’s been challenging, Leah GC says it’s also refreshing to embark on this journey in her career. She’s been finding her sound, working on perfecting her craft and zeroing in on the most effective way to deliver her best work to her audience. Learning more about herself, discovering a new version of herself everyday, understanding the business side of the industry more, listening to what she’s been producing, working with the team she has now and gaining more supporters has been really fun. It has given Leah GC a new level of confidence, enough to know she’s got this and can do all things through Christ.
