STOCKHOLM, Sweden (CMC):
ORGANISERS INDICATED that two-time women’s 200 metres world champion Shericka Jackson will be one of the headline acts for the World Athletics Diamond League meet on June 2 in Sweden.
The 29-year-old Jamaican sprinter made Diamond League history last season when she won the 100 and 200 metres at the finals in the American city of Eugene in the state of Oregon.
Jackson won the 200 three years ago in Stockholm, but she has not confirmed which distance she will contest this year.
As a two-time world 200 champion and 100 silver medallist, she will be competitive at either distance, and it will be intriguing to discover the other competitors that organisers will be able to attract for a showdown with her.
The Diamond League is an annual series of elite track and field competitions comprising 15 of the best invitational meets.
The series sits in the top tier of the World Athletics (formerly known as the International Association of Athletics Federation) one-day meets.
