Jamaica Family Fest, the destination family event for Heroes’ Weekend, has returned to its popular venue, the Kingston Waterfront this Heroes’ Day, today, October 21.
The wholesome all-age event had originally moved to Hope Gardens for last year’s staging, but the organisers felt that the official venue, the Kingston Waterfront, was ideal for the 10th staging of the wholesome family all-day festival this year.
“Kingston Waterfront is home to Jamaica Family Fest, and so we decided to take the event home for this year’s 10th staging. We are going all out as well because it’s a celebration and a milestone achievement for any event. Look out for some interesting additives to the offering this Heroes’ Day,” Andrew McKenley, director of Gospel LinkUp Foundation and promoter of the event, explained.
Employment opportunities
Dubbed as a fun day, expo and concert, the event has partnered with companies like Popeyes, Krispy Kream, Little Caesars, Lasco manufacturing, as well as entities like the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, to not only offer an extended food and shopping village, but to also give employment opportunities and information sharing to all patrons.
“We try to find ways to not only entertain patrons at our events, but to also provide useful information and opportunities for the average Jamaican parent. Services like discounted shopping for grocery items, job opportunities and a public space that families can enjoy together has been our mission from our inception 14 years ago,” McKenley added.
Montego Bay can also look forward to Jamaica Family Fest being staged in December as a pre-Christmas shopping expo and fun day, instead of the Heroes’ Weekend staging extended to the ‘Second City’ two years ago.
