Jamaica today suffered defeat by an innings and 48 runs to Barbados at Couva in their opening game of the West Indies Rising Stars under 17 two day fixture.
The young Jamaicans crashed to 103 all out after the Trinis declared their first innings on 236 for 7. Wicketkeeper Pajay Nelson top scored with 21 against Shaquan Belle 4 for 12.
Batting a second time following on the Jamaicans feared worse they were dismissed for 85 with Nelson again leading the way with 15 against Jakeem Pollard 3 or 16.
The Jamaicans will next be in against the Windward Islands on Saturday at Gilbert Park.
Meanwhile, 17 wickets fell for 257 runs on a stunning opening day of the second cricket test between West Indies and South Africa at Providence in Guyana.
At close the West Indies were struggling on 97 for 7 after bowling out the Proteas for 160 runs, to be trailing by 63 runs.
Local star Shamar Joseph bagged 5 for 33 in his first ever test match at home as South Africa slumped to 83 for 7 before they eventually crashed to 160 all out.
Jaydon Seales supported with 3 for 45 as Dane Piedt top scored with 38.
The West Indies then suffered one of their famous batting collpase to close on 97 for 7 with former captain Jason Holder unbeaten on 33, Keacy Carty was next best with 26.
Wiann Mulder bagged 4 for 18.
