Jamaica failed to medal in the two finals they contested on Tuesday’s opening day of the World Athletics Under 20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

The quartet of Demarco Bennett, Shanniqua Williams, Marcinho Rose and Alliah Baker finished fourth in the mixed mile relay final.

Shaiquan Selbourne Dunn made it to the boys shot put final but failed to make it to the last eight, after throwing 18.92 metres for ninth.

Thirteen more Jamaicans are scheduled to be in action on Wednesday’s second day.

Kelly-Ann Carr and Deschamique Douglas are first up in the girls 400 metres hurdles.

They will be followed by the boys, where Daniel Wright and Trevoy Smith carry Jamaica’s hopes.

Abrina Wright and Shanique Williams will go in the girls 400 metres first round to be followed by Jabari Matheson and Kimarrio Bygrave in the boys equivalent.

National junior record holder Alana Reid will contest the girls 100 metres final late in the evening session while Gary Card and Deandre Daley will run in the boys final.
