Jamaica experienced an almost perfect morning session on the opening day of the World Athletics Under 20 Championships in Lima Peru today.
Three of the four Jamaicans in the 100 metres are through to this afternoon’s semi-finals.
In the girls section Alana Reid won her heat in 11.46 seconds making her the second fastest into the semi-finals, no such luck though for Thieanna Lee Terrelone of Edwin Allen who looked listless in her heat and trailed home in 12.03 seconds and failed to advance.
On the boys side Gary Card of Wolmer’s won his heat in 10.40 seconds and easily booked his place, while Deandre Daley was even more impressive in winning his heat in 10.37 seconds.
The mixed 4x400m relay team of Demarco Bennett, Nastassia Fletcher, Marcinho Rose and Alliah Baker finished second in their heat in a season best 3:24.77 seconds to qualify for this evening’s final.
There, however, was disappointment for the first Jamaican in action at the meet, Rohanna Sudlow of St. Catherine High who failed to make it out of the girl’s long jump qualifying.
Sudlow did not achieve the automatic qualifying standard of 6.40 metres and also failed to finish among the 12 best jumpers, her 5.94 had her in 14th spot.
