Jamaica Premier League To Salute Dancehall by Honoring Rvssian With Icon Award

Jamaica Premier league is acknowledging dancehall as an entertainment partner and will award Rvssian the Icon award says Chairman of Professional Football Jamaica Limited Christopher Williams.

Speaking with Zip 103 FM he stated,, “We have an amazing entertainment product in the Jamaica Premier League, and that entertainment product has had a partner in Dancehall music.”

The culmination of this partnership will be marked on May 19 at the Super Finals, now officially christened the Wray and Nephew Super Finals.

“May 19, we cementing that partnership at the Super Finals, it’s now officially called the Wray and Nephew Super Finals,” Williams said. 

Williams who wear many hats including President of Private Equity company Proven Investments announced the icon awardee saying, “The icon that we are going to be saluting at the national stadium on May 19 is producer Rvssian.

Rvssian, born Tariq Johnston is a multiple multi-Platinum producer known for local hits like Clarks by Vybz Kartel and signing Shensea to a record deal with his Rvssian Immigrants label. Although his dancehall songs are yet to make an impact worldwide, he is credited with bringing Bad Bunny to the world with the RIAA Latin 16x Platinum(960k) song “Krippy Kush” and the 6x Platinum (360k) “Si Tu Lo Dejas.”

His success and growing influence on Latin music in the American market has earned him over 2.2 billion streams on Spotify across his catalog making him the fourth highest streaming Jamaican artist on the platform. He has collaborations with artists like Chris Brown and Travis Scott, continue to resonate with audiences worldwide with his latest single Santa with Ayra Starr and Rauw Alejandro peaking at #12 on Spotify Global. 

The music video for the song has almost 12 million views on YouTube sing its April 4 release.

Rvssian attributes his seamless transition from Dancehall to Latin music to his lifelong appreciation for Latin music and its compatibility with Jamaican music genres.
