Jamaicans are still dizzy with excitement from the triumph of Roje Stona, who produced an Olympic record to win gold in the men’s discus throw at the Paris Games on Wednesday.

Stona threw 70 metres to upset world record holder Mykolas Alekna of Lithuania.

This is Jamaica’s first gold at the 2024 Olympic games.

Reacting to the win, Jamaican discus thrower, Fedrick Dacres, couldn’t contain his joy.

Dacres says funding and sponsorship for field events’ athletes in Jamaica is lacking.

Stona’s history making feat pushes Jamaica up to 29 on the medal table with five; one gold, three silvers and one bronze.

Meanwhile, principal of St. Jago High School, Collette Pryce says Stona was an exceptional student athlete.
