THIS MORNING at 10, the Jamaica Boxing Association (JBA) will host an introductory coaching clinic at the National Gym.

Led by Ava Sturm, a certified personal trainer and boxing coach from Toronto, Canada, the clinic is expected to provide foundational training to 20 local coaches, equipping them with the skills needed to support the expansion of the JBA’s Gloves Over Guns (GOG) Futures initiative.

The course is designed to lay the groundwork for certified coaches to lead boxing workshops in schools across the island, with the ultimate goal of launching Jamaica’s first high school boxing championship.

The initiative aims to foster talent, inspire positive change in communities, and identify future champions by engaging young athletes in structured, disciplined programmes.

The clinic also represents a key step in Jamaica’s Road to the 2028 Olympics, ensuring that coaches are properly registered and poised to participate in more advanced training later this year.

While today’s session is an introductory course, it signifies the JBA’s commitment to strengthening the sport’s framework, ensuring that every coach and boxer operates within sanctioned and professional guidelines.

As the JBA continues to align with World Boxing, this effort reinforces Jamaica’s dedication to developing talent at every level, from grass roots to international competition. This coaching clinic symbolises the unity, discipline, and growth that will drive the future of boxing in Jamaica.
