JLP Accuses Mayor of Trying to Distract from Allegations Dogging KSAMC

The governing Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, is describing an announcement by Mayor Andrew Swaby of a committee to ensure transparency at the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation, KSAMC, as an attempt to distract from the corruption scandal plaguing the corporation.

The JLP made the charge in a statement to the media on Thursday.

Mahiri Stewart has that story.

Last Wednesday, Kingston’s mayor, Andrew Swaby, announced the creation of a 10 member advisory committee, headed by the Reverend Devon Dick.

He said the committee will be tasked to ensure that the principles of accountability, transparency and ethical leadership are upheld in the KSAMC.

But JLP Spokesman, Senator Marlon Morgan, is not amused.

Senator Morgan says there are serious questions for Mayor Swaby to answer.

He says Mayor Swaby must also answer questions about his own utterances.

Mayor Swaby has strongly denied any wrongdoing and insisted that the KSAMC under his watch is being governed appropriately. But Senator Morgan says the JLP will not relent until clearer answers are forthcoming from Kingston’s mayor.
