The Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, has retained the Cornwall Mountain Division in Central Westmoreland following last Monday’s Local Government Elections.
The Opposition People’s National Party, PNP, sought a magisterial recount of the results after the JLP’s Dawnette Foster polled 1,497 votes to the PNP’s Abigail Malcolm, who received 1,470 ballots.
That’s a difference of 27.
The PNP were hoping that several ballots which were accepted in the final count would have been rejected by the judge.
But King’s Counsel, Tom Tavares-Finson told our news centre that the judge ruled against the motion.

The final count shows Foster retaining the seat by just four votes.
She polled 1,558 votes compared to Malcolm’s 1,554.
