The Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, has retained the Southboro Division in the Portmore Municipality of East Central St. Catherine, following last Monday’s local government elections.
The PNP sought a magisterial recount of the results after they lost the division by a margin of only three votes.
The JLP’s councillor-elect, Damara Lawson, won with 1,008, compared to the 1,005 polled by the PNP’s Everton Shakes.
But at the end of the magisterial recount on Friday, Lawson retained the seat with 1,012 votes compared to Shakes’ 1,008.
Shakes is the PNP’s replacement for councillor Ainsley Parkins, who was killed in the division in 2023.
He was reportedly shot 15 times.
