Councillor-elect for the New Market Division in St. Elizabeth, the JLP’s Richard Solomon, is set to be installed as the new mayor of Black River and chairman of the municipal corporation.
Solomon won his division in the February 26 local government elections by 669 votes against the PNP’s Christopher Russell.
He will be sworn into office on Thursday, replacing Derrick Sangster.
The deputy mayor will be councillor-elect for the Malvern Division, the JLP’s Donald Simpson.
The JLP won the majority of the seats in St. Elizabeth, taking nine of the 15 divisions.
Meanwhile, councillor-elect for the Bethel Town division in Eastern Westmoreland, the PNP’s Danree Delancy, will be the new mayor of Savanna-la-Mar.
Delancy, who was the deputy mayor for Savanna-la-Mar, will replace Bertel Moore as chairman of the corporation.
Delancy defeated the JLP’s Carolyn Ramsay by 432 votes to retain his seat.
The PNP came away with 11 of the 14 divisions in Westmoreland, securing control of the municipal corporation.
