The Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, Secretariat says it has recommended Kingston’s deputy mayor, Delroy Williams, to be its standard-bearer in Central Clarendon.
In a statement on Tuesday, the JLP Secretariat disclosed that the recommendation was made to the party’s selection committee and central executive.
It says Williams is the only applicant to be the JLP standard-bearer for the constituency.
The party says Williams has gained widespread support in the constituency, noting that his organisational skills are well known. The party says this will enhance the legacy of the JLP in Clarendon.
It’s a seat that the party has held in every election since 1980, when publishing giant Lester ‘Mike’ Henry first won election to the House of Representatives.
Williams was understood to be one of two aspirants vying to replace Henry.
But our news centre understands that after conciliatory talks, the other aspirant, May Pen’s mayor, Joel Williams, opted to maintain the status quo.
