Where will it end?
That’s the observation from a member of the Jamaica Labour Party’s, JLP, Communications Task Force, Marlon Morgan following the Integrity Commission’s request for parliament to support its referral concerning Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ statutory declarations to the Financial Investigations Division, FID.
The Integrity Commission has also asked parliament to support its referral of the prime minister’s declarations to Tax Administration Jamaica.
Daina Davy reports.
The Integrity Commission’s investigative report and ruling tabled in parliament on Tuesday says Prime Minister Holness should face no charge regarding his uncertified statutory declarations.
However, the IC now says it wants the FID and the TAJ to also probe the accounts of companies with ties to Prime Minister Holness. The accounts show millions of dollars being transferred between the companies.
The IC director of investigations, Kevon Stephenson, is raising tax compliance concerns. The IC also notes that there can be no finality on the prime minister’s declarations until the FID and TAJ can determine whether the companies named are operating within the parameters of the laws of Jamaica.
Morgan is questioning where will the IC pursuit end.
The JLP spokesman says the IC is effectively throwing the kitchen sink at the prime minister.
According to Morgan, the JLP is aware that many Jamaicans believe the issue is a witch hunt.
