The Jamaica Labour Party has withheld the official results of Sunday’s internal selection in Western Westmoreland, as the party completes its final count.
Nationwide News understands that the results will be released Monday evening.
Our news centre has been informed that it was a closely fought contest between councillor for the Sheffield division, Dr. Garfield James and the incumbent member of parliament, MP, Morland Wilson.
Unofficial reports suggest Councillor James may have emerged victorious. However, the margin of victory remains unclear.
Reports indicate that voter turnout was low, despite nearly 600 delegates being eligible to cast their ballots.
Dr. James addressed the media following a celebratory gathering at Little London High School.
He underscored the need for improved representation in the constituency, and expressed a commitment to building on the foundation already laid.

Dr. James is the current principal of Little London High School.
He is one of three former People’s National Party, PNP, councillors who resigned after a fallout with party vice-president and current caretaker, Ian Hayles.
James, along with councillor for the Little London division, Ian Myles, crossed the floor to join the JLP.
In the 2020 general elections, MP Wilson secured 6,148 votes, defeating the PNP candidate, Wykeham McNeill, who polled 5,095 votes.
