JOSE MARTI’S junior and senior netball teams stayed perfect in the ISSA Urban schoolgirl netball competition this week.
Playing in Zone F, the Philip Pinnock-coached teams made it three wins in a row after getting by Mona in their away assignments on Friday.
In the day’s first game, the juniors eked out a 17-13 win, while the seniors had an easier time with a 38-15 result.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Jose Marti’s have made the semifinal in both junior and senior competitions. The senior team made the final in 2021.
After being crowned senior champions in the preseason open rally, Pinnock has been cautiously optimistic about the teams’ this season.
“It is very early in the season. Both teams are playing well. The aim right now is to learn what each combination will produce by giving them time on the court. This is just the preliminary round of the competition as it will get tougher in the second round,” he said.
Pinnock also singled out three of his senior players for praise.
“Captain Nicholette Spencer, who plays centre, vice captain Ashawna Sibblies, who plays goal defence, and wing attack Shauna Kay Nicholas have all been playing extremely well so far,” said Pinnock.
Wolmer’s Girls’ junior team also made it three wins in a row on Friday.
Playing in Zone E, they blew away St Jago 51-4, while Gaynstead’s juniors picking up their second win on the trot after getting by Tarrant 34- 11 in Zone D.
